It has been an eventful week at Oakleigh State School
celebrating Queensland Women’s Week.
This evening (Thursday) parents and carers are invited to
attend a Leadership Panel discussing methods of inspiring our daughters into
leadership positions. The panel includes Kate Jones (Minister for Education and the Member for Ashgrove),
Emily Biswell (from Mastercard), Megan Houghton (Executive General Manager for Energy
Solutions at ERM Power), Emily De La Pena (Founder of Coding Kids) and Anne
Ozdowska (PhD Candidate).
The event will be held at 7.00pm in the school Library.
Bookings are essential. For booking details please refer to the email sent out by
the school this afternoon.
On Monday Oakleigh State School was very fortunate that Dr
Catherine Bell spent the entire day at our school for Queensland Women’s Week. Years
2 to 6 spent a session with Dr Bell during the day and she also spoke to the entire
student body at a whole school assembly.
Dr Bell is a business woman, entrepreneur, scientist and
humanitarian. She inspired our students about leadership and possible pathways
for the future of the drone industry.
Year 6 girls and their parents were invited to an afternoon tea
with Dr Bell to discuss career possibilities in more detail.
On Tuesday Years 5 and 6 students attended a Leadership
Panel to hear from inspiring community members and parents about leadership and
what qualities it takes to be a leader.
