Parent and Community Engagement Committee

PaCE is a group of parents that meets regularly with the school leadership team to maintain positive partnerships and keep parental advocacy channels open. We work together to find ways to improve learning at Oakleigh, so as to strengthen the learning outcomes for all students. Our mandate covers:

  • communication
  • learning partnerships
  • community collaboration
  • decision making, and
  • participation.

For more information on how these elements of engagement make a positive difference see http://education.qld.gov.au/schools/parent-community-engagement-framework/

In 2015 and 2016, we have focused our attention on:

  • streamlining communications between home and school
  • introducing a social and emotional well-being programme for the whole school
  • investigating how ethics can be introduced into schools in Queensland
  • ways to build a culture of volunteerism
  • providing opportunities for parents, grandparents and Oakleigh Alumni to participate in the life of the school

The Deputy Principal, Brian Marsden, chairs the group and calls meetings usually once a term. The P&C Vice-President for Parent Engagement and Advocacy is a member, along with around 20 other parents who are keen to influence and contribute.
