Vision for Learning

In empowering our community of learners, Oakleigh State School believes firmly in the power of action-oriented inquiry to enable our students to create a legacy.  After becoming an Early Launch School of the Digital Technologies Curriculum in 2016, it was apparently that this curriculum and the Design & Technologies Curriculum presented exciting opportunities for our teachers and students to become designers of solutions.  STEAM as a vision then evolved as we consulted with our community about their hopes and dreams for their young children as scientists, mathematicians and designers.  In creating the below vision for STEAM learning, we were supported by the Department's Schools of the Future STEM strategy to then embed the mindset, toolset and skillset of inquiry within teaching and learning.

The School's Strategic Plan

The school's Strategic Plan for 2020-2023 outlines our vision for our community of learners. There are many ways that or STEAM vision is articulated throughout this plan.

Inquiry

Our staff design units of work that take advantage of the intent of these curriculum areas by aligning with another curriculum area to provide the context for the solution.  The student inquiry process we use is our own model of design thinking called 'Design@Oakeigh' – pictured below.  This process scaffolds the thinking that is required to be both divergent and convergent at different points of the process.
