At Oakleigh State School students try out for a place in the Strings Program at the end of year 2.

Instruments taught are violin, viola, cello and double bass.

If accepted students will have the opportunity to play in string orchestras, attend music camps, play in competitions and perform at school.

Learning an instrument is a very rewarding experience which can last a lifetime.

The Strings Teacher is at Oakleigh one day per week.

There are string orchestras which give students ensemble playing experience.

Junior Strings is the training ensemble for Senior Strings and rehearses at Second Break for year 4 students.

Senior Strings Orchestra rehearses before school for  students in years 5 and 6. Some year 6s are extended by playing in Chamber Strings.
